AOC Takes an L in Argument With Dave Portnoy
If you haven’t seen the drama all over Twitter yet, you should go check it out here (Portnoy vs AOC). Pretty much some lawyer looking for a big payday wants Barstool Sports employees to form a union. Dave Portnoy tweeted that he will fire anyone who contacts this wanna-be attorney. The whole internet pretty much went up in flames over this and at the center of the attention is Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. She went on this rant about labor laws, and unions and pretty much how Dave Portnoy is a despicable human being. Of course, he threw gas on the fire, challenging her to a debate. Other Barstool Employees have given invites to her and labor-law advocates to phone in on their radio show to provide insight on the matter. This is all in a matter of hours.
So Is This Illegal
In short, I can’t imagine any of this holding up in court. Look at some of the stuff Dave posts. There are a bunch of jokes, satire, and tweets to generate controversy. This is how Barstool thrives. They post the stuff that no one else will, or they spin it in a way that other people can’t think of. People are posting that “Portnoy should be in jail”, or how rude he is to his employees. They run half of their office as a giant reality T.V. show. The drama fuels their fire. So please, take this to court. Make it a bigger story than it already is. This is how the company makes money. They will make shirts and hats for it and sell it to Stoolies who enjoy the entertainment.
What People Aren’t Understanding
Dave Portnoy no longer owns Barstool Sports. He is not the CEO. He manages the office. Portnoy’s job is to generate traffic and revenue to the website. How better to do this than troll people online with content that creates crazy amounts of debate and hype. Is he really going to fire people for trying to form a union? No. They won’t form a union. The environment that Barstool has developed for the employees to work in is a blend of fun and high energy, with high output of content. This would all go away if a union tried to tell them what environment they had to have for their employees. Like any job, employees are going to have ups and downs. There are pros and cons in any workplace. There is nothing that forces any of them to stay.
The people who want to sue El Presidente for this and claim he is breaking laws are a joke. He wants you to comment back to him. He wants you to hate him. If you do these, you generate posts about it. These post includes him, and/or Barstool. This generates a larger spread of his name and the company name on the internet. This is how they make money. So please, keep posting about Dave Portnoy. Keep posting about Barstool Sports. Good or bad, you are helping the company profit, which is great for all of us who want to keep seeing their content.
