Apple Greatly Reducing Carbon Footprint
A wall charging brick comes standard with basically every electronic device on the market today. As you may have heard, this year Apple is shipping the new iPhone 12 without a wall charger or wired EarPods.
This is the first time since the iPhone’s release in 2007 that this has happened.
They will only be shipping the new iPhones with a USB-C to Lightning connector for fast charging. Consumers will need to purchase either a third party wall charger with USB-C or order one separately from Apple if you want to take advantage of fast charging your device on launch day.
Why The Switch Up?
Apple’s reasoning for this is pretty straight forward. According to Lisa Jackson, vice president of environment, policy, and social initiatives at Apple, “Customers already have over 700 million Lightning headphones, and many customers have moved to a wireless experience” she said at an iPhone 12 press release last week.
She also goes on to say, “There are also over 2 billion Apple power adapters out there in the world, and that’s not counting the billions of third-party adapters. We’re removing these items from the iPhone box, which reduces carbon emissions and avoids the mining and use of precious materials.”
Apple says that along with this change in packaging, they are able to store up to 70% more iPhones. This improves efficiency and further reduces carbon footprint by sending out far fewer trucks, and far fewer shipments in total for Apple devices compared to years past.
But with all of the sudden changes in production, it means that most consumers will, most likely, not be able to USB-C fast charge their devices straight out of the box.
This gives most Android producers like Samsung, OnePlus, and Google who have not only included USB-C to USB-C connectors in their devices, but also include EarPods and a charging brick already.
So it also begs the question, will most Apple users be moving to Android this year in spite of the changes? If you are a die-hard Apple fan and want to be able to fast charge your device right out of the box without breaking the bank, a third party fast-charging device is a great way to go.
What is Fast Charging and Why Do You Need It?
It has many names but at this point, the chances are you have probably heard of fast charging. This kind of charging is on a steep rise and is becoming a common feature that most producers include in their products today.
Fast charging allows you to charge your device in a fraction of the time compared to traditional charging methods.
There are many producers that supply fast charging technology. Companies like Apple, Qualcomm, Samsung, and OnePlus for example, are among hundreds of suppliers that supply this technology today.
If you don’t have a fast charger or fast charging compatible device yet, you might be asking, “Why do I need a fast charger?”.
Fast charging cables can be the difference between a dead device, or an additional 3 hours of battery life. By giving users that extra boost in battery life it also improves usability and overall mobility of your devices.
With fast charging, you’re able to use the high performance benefits your device offers for longer. No more having to worry about having to find an outlet mid-day. Carry your device with you all day!
How Fast Charging Affects You
Technology is constantly evolving and with more and more developments made every day, the demand for high performance is certain. But with higher performance needs comes the need for larger batteries in devices, and more power demanding equipment.
For example, the new iPhone 12 Pro Max, one of the largest smartphones on the market, boasts about a 3,700 mAh battery. That is equivalent to about 20 hours of video playback. It’s not only one of the largest with a 6.7-inch screen, but it’s also one of the fastest and most power demanding phones on the market.
Fast charging further improves on this issue and instead of waiting hours for a charge, you could let your device sit for as little as 10-15 minutes to see up to 3 hours of extra battery life. That’s perfect!
If you forget to charge your phone the night before, if you’re getting ready for a night out with friends and you need some extra battery life in a snap, fast charging is changing the way we think about charging as a whole.
Another thing to consider with fast charging technology is that it includes mechanisms for protecting your device’s battery. These work by cushioning against overheating and power surges. Without this, it could lead to internal circuitry damage and in rare cases, battery explosions.
For example, Samsung’s adaptive fast charging only charges batteries until the device reaches a certain battery level. When it reaches the cap fast charging level, it adapts and starts charging the device at a normal charging speed.
Qualcomm uses similar technology with its Quick Charge 3.0 system. By doing this, it has become an industry standard for fast charging technology.
Take Advantage of Fast Charging Today
If you’re sold on fast charging and want a fast charging cable in your arsenal, you’re far from alone. Loads of fast charging products are rolling off the assembly line as we speak.
Millions of consumers are moving from far inferior traditional charging methods to fast charging cables and wall chargers. People need efficiency.
By far, the best charging cables on the market right now incorporate magnetic charging to their cables.
Magnetic charging cables have many distinct benefits. One of them is the ability to charge all of your devices with a single cable. With swap-able magnetic tips for all your mobile devices, this can be achieved.
Each cable includes changeable Lightning, Micro USB, and Type-C charging tips. Leaving the charging tip in your device protects your charging port from dust build-up inside your device’s charging port.
This can prevent your device from charging and potentially damage your device’s internals. By protecting your device with a magnetic tip you extend the life of internal components. It also prevents further wear and tear from regular charging cables.
The charging cable features a high-grade aluminum casing, a convenient blue LED light. This feature makes connecting the cable easy in the middle of the night. It also includes a strain relief collar for improved cable resilience and super durable PBV nylon braiding.
The cable features an incredibly strong, N-52 neodymium magnetic connector. This makes the charger one of the strongest magnetic connections in its class.
