Get Ready For Studio Park in Grand Rapids | Coming Fall, 2019
If you haven’t heard of Studio Park, then you have probably seen it with out even knowing it. The large building that is going up behind the Van Andel Arena, right across from Tavern on the Square, will be home to Studio Park. This massive building will provide housing and space for a number of residents and local businesses, as well as a movie theater and small event venue. Many people have concern about a lack of parking downtown as the parking lots are transitioning into buildings. This building will have 933 parking spots available in a parking garage. This project is roughly a $240 million dollar investment into the city. Grand Opening for the building is set to happen by the end of September.
At Studio Park, there will be 246 lofts and condos available for rent and for sale. There is currently no information available about the condos, but the apartments are available, and I have to admit, they look pretty cool. There are 21 floor plans available, ranging from studio lofts to 2 bedroom, 1 bath apartments. The smallest of these is just 338 square feet, and the largest goes up to 948 square feet. I would expect that the condos may have options with larger living areas available.
They do allow pets as well. Each unit will can have 2 pets maximum. There is no weight restriction, but some breeds may need a Good Canine Certificate. The cost is $250 upfront for a pet and $35 per month. Parking spaces are available for residents as well. The rate for garage parking is $150 per month for each space. All units include appliances and most of them include a patio.
There will be several companies either moving offices or expanding additional offices into this new building. The company behind the project wants the right mixture of businesses to create the best environment for the community. Although we are not entirely sure what businesses will be taking up office space here yet, we do know one thing. There will be job opportunities arising in from this project. The office space project is expected to be a part of phase 2 and will not be opening until sometime after the grand opening in Fall of 2019.
Celebration Cinema is the hosting theater company for Studio Park. This movie theater is complete with 9 showing screens to see all the latest box office hits. Comfortable recliner seats and 4k laser projectors will bring the newest technology to the theater. Of course we can’t forget the most important part, the concessions. Fresh popcorn, slurpees, candy, pretzels, and your other favorite theater snacks. In addition, the theater will validate your parking pass, so you don’t have to worry about parking.
Restaurants and Retail
There are several local businesses that have announced their intention to take up retail space in this new building. The first of these is One Twenty Three, an American Tavern, as the core restaurant of the building. Another restaurant, Leo’s Coney Island, will be another of the additions. If you have ever been to a Leo’s in the Deroit area, then you should be just as excited as I am for this. Pump House Frozen Yogurt Bar will also be a part of the development, offering premium yogurt, sorbet, gelato, sorbet, and a variety of toppings. For a healthier option, Malamiah Juice Bar and Eatery will be joining the lineup. They offer specialty juices and smoothies, as well as acai bowls and wellness shots. Last but not least, Funky Buddha Yoga will be adding a new location here. They will hold classes in the community piazza as well as indoors.
A 4 star hotel will be one of the additions to this building in downtown Grand Rapids. Hilton has become one of the businesses of the building, putting in The Canopy by Hilton. This modern style hotel has the layout and design that a busy professional will love. From a vibrant lobby, decorated to match the area culture, to complimentary bikes to roam the city, The Canopy has you covered (no pun intended.) The cafe has seasonal rotations of food and beverage, as well as a lounge area to set up your laptop for a working area. The rooms come complete with canopy beds, where the design reflects the local neighborhood. Filtered water and ice is available on every floor to fill up before heading out to start your day.
The Listening Room
The Listening room is set to be a 200 person live music venue. The venue has the newest design technology to maximize the sounds and acoustics within the room. Residents at the Studio Park building will have priority access to tickets. We do not yet know what artists will be the first to use the venue, but there should be an announcement soon. With the size and design, I would also expect to see this part of the building used for private events as well.
A piazza is an Italian term for a public square, or a marketplace. This is exactly what will be in the middle of Studio Park. Although we are not entirely sure what they have in mind, the company behind the projects is already planning events for the piazza. The Piazza is where the entrance to the Celebration Cinema is at. In addition, patio seating is expected for some of the retail spaces. There will be trees and grass within the piazza, as well as outdoor seating areas.
