Grand Rapid’s Free Events | Fun For the Whole Family
Looking for some fun this summer, but don’t have any money? Check out these free events! Grand Rapids offers tons of fun events for families to try, all over the city. Some of the events happen once a week, while others are annual events.
Free Thursday Nights at the GRAM
Every Tuesday and Thursday, the Grand Rapids Art Museum hosts a free entry day. The free entry on Tuesdays runs from 10 am to 5 pm. On Thursdays, the museum offers free admission from 5 pm to 9 pm. While the museum is free to enter on both days, on Tuesdays, the GRAM offers free drop-in tours of the facility. Located downtown in the heart of the city, the Grand Rapids Art Museum is a great spot to start or finish your day, with nearby bars and restaurants to refuel at.
Thursdays are also yoga nights for the GRAM. Every Thursday, the GRAM and Priority Health offer Vinyasa-style yoga classes in the Cook Auditorium. Instructors for these classes are Ashley Yost, and Mali Jane. While these classes are technically free, a donation is suggested to participate. All proceeds go directly to support AM Yoga and are greatly appreciated.
Why yoga at the Museum?
Yoga is the art of connecting mind with body through movement, breath, and meditation. Art and yoga have complementary and intrinsically valuable benefits. Art provides us with a deeper understanding of the world around us, a greater empathy for others and heightened powers of observation. Those who practice yoga regularly can achieve an increased sense of self-awareness, mindfulness and ability to be present in their daily activities. Experienced together, art and yoga can offer new ways of seeing the world and experiencing the self.

Brave the Wave’s Adaptive Wakesurf Tour 2019- July 27
Here’s a unique and fun event, not to mention free! This free day of wakesurfing aims to encompass individuals with a range of physical disabilities. That doesn’t mean you have to have a physical disability to participate; the main goal of the event is inclusiveness. Wakesurfing is a watersport where the participant surfs on the wake created by the boat they are behind. There will be a range of fun events, from community building, prosthetic testing, fundamentals of wakesurfing, food, and more! 2019 Adaptive Surfing World Champion gold medal team member Lexi Youngberg teaches participants about wakesurfing throughout this free event with her friends and other professionals. She is a below-knee amputee herself, with a burning passion for wakesurfing. She looks to share with others who have a range of physical disabilities.
