The Grand Rapids Wine Bar Scene: Where To Go
Known as Beer City USA, Grand Rapids has over 38 breweries dotted throughout. There are plenty of other options if you don’t want to drink beer. For those who love their crushed grapes, Grand Rapids has a host of fantastic wine bars to choose from! I have done some of the legwork regarding finding 10 of them, and would like to share my findings with you!
House of Wine-
Located right downtown on Monroe Center, House of Wine is in the perfect spot to meet up for a drink, or pick up a bottle. The bar side of House of Wine has over 70 different wines to choose from and some fantastic food to enjoy. You can order drinks by the glass or by the sample in the bar, or take a bottle home from the retail shop. House of Wine utilizes a Winekeeper, which is a wine preservation unit. This unit is designed to keep wine at the exact condition it is supposed to be at upon opening. This ensures that each customer gets the best quality wine, and the most flavorful glass available. Come check out their Happy Hour from 3-6 pm Monday through Friday!
Forty Pearl offers a unique perspective on local wines. Their specialty is Michigan wines from the Traverse Coast, and they do not disappoint! With selection of wines and spirits from the Northwest part of Michigan, you will definitely find something you like. In this unique and local setting, Forty Pearl offers classes and education for those who are interested. They offer wine tasting, and event catering as well. Forty Pearl is a wine and spirits bar, so they do not offer food. If you are hungry, it would be wise to eat before entering. Make sure you stop by this fantastic tasting room featuring wines from Bonobo Winery, Bel Lago Vineyards & Winery, Brengman Brothers, and Grand Traverse Distillery!
If you are looking for a classy meal and wine combination, then look no further than Divani. With an extensive cocktail menu, fantastic food, and an enormous wine selection, you have found a Grand Rapids gem! Divani even has a large selection of beers from around the world. As you peruse the wine selection, you will notice that there are wines from countries all over the world. This wide variety of locations and cultural influences creates a mural of flavors for your pallet. If you aren’t feeling like drinking wine, you can also get a handmade cocktail from the professional in-house bartenders.
The Reserve has established itself as a go-to wine bar in Grand Rapids. Not only do they offer a wide range of wines, but also fantastic food! This trendy, upscale wine bar and restaurant is the perfect location for an intimate meal. You will receive outstanding service. You will also be taken care of by experienced and knowledgeable staff. The Reserve offers lunch and dinner. If you stop by for a glass of wine for lunch, you can enjoy the lunch specials, and enjoy a discount of you take a bottle to go!
Noto’s Old World Italian Dining-
Notos Old World Italian Dining is located on 28th street in Grand Rapids, and serves amazing Italian cuisine. They also offer hundreds of fine Italian wine, from the red wines of Venito, to the white wines of Sicilia. Everything on the menu is either hand made from scratch, or imported from Italy, and it is apparent in the magnificent drinks and food. This place might have the largest selection of wine that I have seen to date. Combine that with the amazing ambiance and food, and you’ve got yourself the perfect date night!
This restaurant and wine bar located inside the Downtown Market, has a diverse approach to Grand Rapids cuisine. You can find great food here, as well as imported cheeses, beers and of course, wines. As a wine bar, Aperitivo has everything you could want. There is a wide selection of many different types and style to taste, or take home. The food is also delicious. They offer small plates to go with your wine or cocktail, and they do not disappoint when it comes to flavor or price. If you like cheese with your wine, this is the place to explore!

The well-informed and attentive servers can also answer whatever questions about wine pairing that you may have, and can suggest something you may like. Judson’s Steakhouse at the B.O.B.-
Judson’s Steakhouse is yet another great option if you enjoy wine and delicious food. They offer a fantastic steak, prime rib, seafood, and more. What goes best with some delicious red meat? Wine! Judson’s Steakhouse has a wine list that will have something for everyone! If you cannot decide what to try, the servers and bartenders would be more than willing to help through a suggestion. The employees are very knowledgeable about which wines pair best with what food, and are very friendly. This restaurant is right in the heart of downtown Grand Rapids, on the first floor of the B.O.B.
Cork Wine & Grille-
Tucked away in a country club, Cork Wine & Grille has an excellent atmosphere. The food here is always cooked to perfection and paired with the proper wine. There are over 120 different options of wine by the glass or the bottle. With an outdoor patio and large dining area, you are sure to have the perfect setting for whatever event you may have, from a date, to birthdays! Many people rave about this place because of the experience they have: First, they are greeted by smiling and kind staff. Then they receive a fantastically cooked meal, paired with the perfect wine. Finally, they kick back with a glass of wine and can watch the championship golf course nearby. This casual, upscale setting can be the perfect getaway.
The Kitchen by Wolfgang Puck-
This restaurant nestled inside the Amway, is the perfect place to come if you going out in Grand Rapids. They are open for lunch so you could eat and then go out, or go out and then enjoy dinner and drinks. Regardless of what time you come to The Kitchen, you will not be disappointed. The menu is extremely diverse, and the wine list is expansive to match. The knowledgeable bartenders can help you order some delicious food as well as help you choose the accompanying wine. This is definitely not a restaurant that you want to miss out on!
